Caroline + Mark, a Rockland’s Farm Wedding

Brooke Tyson Photography

Caroline and Mark met in a very unusual location – a courthouse! But given that these two are both lawyers, meeting at a courthouse is a little less unusual. Caroline and Mark celebrated their marriage on September 3 at beautiful Rockland’s Farm in Poolesville, Maryland. It is clear that protecting others and giving back is extremely important to these two, and they have dedicated their lives and careers to doing just that. Caroline and Mark included elements of their lives together, from photos of the two growing up decorating the walls of Rockland’s Farm and favorite books and stories on the barn shelves to special poems during their ceremony and adorning the barn. On top of that, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, whom Caroline clerked for, officiated their ceremony, which was so special.

Caroline is one of those people that is just so incredibly elegant and gracious. On her wedding day, Caroline was so remarkably calm; when I arrived, her hair and makeup were finished, she was wearing a stunning red dress, and she had all of her beautiful details packed and ready to photograph! And what STUNNING details they were!!  Wow!  Seriously – these are some beautiful, beautiful details.  And even though it was her wedding day, Caroline was so eager to include others; she even remembered how much I love dogs and she told me all about the dog they are adopting from a rescue soon! I can’t wait to see photos of their new family member. :) Meanwhile, Mark was just as relaxed; when he arrived, Justin took some photos of just him, and then it was time for their first look – and he was so excited to see Caroline in her beautiful wedding dress!

It is no secret that Rockland’s Farm is truly my favorite wedding venue, and I have been so fortunate to photograph weddings there in 2014, 2015, and now, in 2016! Every single time I visit Rockland’s Farm there has been some sort of new feature – the tasting room below the barn, the vineyards, and now this stunning sunflower and wildflower field (just wait until you see that!!). Not only is Rockland’s Farm truly such a gorgeous and varied venue, but the family that runs this farm is so, so kind. I always enjoy seeing Janice and she takes so much care and pride in making sure that her couples have the best day ever.

Caroline and Mark’s wedding day actually started off fairly cool and gray; I was so worried that rain may impact their outdoor ceremony plans! But thankfully the skies cleared and it ended up being an incredibly beautiful day with a sunset that truly was the most stunning I have ever seen! And you just have to see this sunset – I still cannot believe that this is real! Janice suggested that she could take Caroline, Mark, and I up to the sunflower field. I was worried about light after we finished family portraits, so we jumped in the tractor and Janice began driving us up to the field right away. As we got closer to the flower field, the sun dipped below the horizon and the most incredible streaks of orange and red spread across the sky! We were so lucky to reach the sunflower field at just the right time to get these AMAZING sunset pictures! Within ten minutes, the colors settled into twilight, and it was time to head back and prepare for the reception to begin.

It was very clear that these two are SO loved by many people. Most weddings I photograph have two to four speeches, but Caroline and Mark’s topped it all – and by a lot! These two had NINE wedding speeches! And every single one was so meaningful, sweet, and special (I especially loved hearing Caroline’s mom and Mark’s mom talk about these two when they were young!). Between speeches, these two shared an INCREDIBLE meal with family and friend, and then everyone hit the dance floor for a fun night.

Congratulations on your beautiful wedding, Caroline and Mark! I am so happy for you two!

After the ceremony, these two jumped on the tractor for the trip to the sunflower field… and these sunset portraits are INCREDIBLE! We were so lucky to have this stunning sunset!

The left was the sky during our sunset portraits – and the right was the sky just minutes later! I still can’t believe how lucky we were to have been in this sunflower field at just the right time! (Plus, how adorable are these two in the back of this tractor?)

I love the rustic feel of this wedding and how you styled the details to really convey that. And you have got to be kidding me with that sunset! It's incredible!
